Mulled Wine


For the Mulled Wine
⦁ 1 (750 ml.) bottle of dry red wine
⦁ 1/4 cup brandy
⦁ 1 orange, sliced into half rounds
⦁ 8 whole cloves
⦁ 2 cinnamon sticks
⦁ 2 star anise
⦁ 2-4 Tbsp. sugar, honey or maple syrup, to taste

For the Garnish
⦁ Citrus slices
⦁ Extra cinnamon sticks
⦁ Extra star anise
⦁ Rosemary sprig

1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat just barely to a simmer over medium-high heat. Be careful not to boil the mulled wine.
2. Reduce heat to low, cover and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.
3. Strain and serve warm with your desired garnishes.

This can easily be made in a crockpot if serving a crowd.
Feel free to use your choice of sweetener, or leave the mulled wine unsweetened.
You can also place the oranges, cloves, cinnamon and star anise in a cheesecloth. Simply strain and pull the bundle out when ready to serve.
